Title: Angel Touch
Author: Mike Ripley
This book is really funny . I picked it up by chance and could not put it down. This is the story of Angel who is a self employed part musician , part investigator ,part con man and part anything. He offers to help his lovely black neighbour whom he lusts after, in her troubles at her investment bank cum brokerage house and immediately regrets the decision as he is thrown into comic escapades which make the reader laugh till he drops. His description of street life and city life in England, is original to say the least and makes the reader smile through out. As he tries to outwit a sophisticated inside trader , he has to take the help of his friends who are as diverse as the werewolf ( because of his bearded appearance and attitude) . a sophisticated takeover artist, the Denision brothers ( black thugs ) and many more..... He drives his car which is a retired taxi ( hence he avoids wearing a seatbelt and breaks traffic rules in England with impunity )into ludicrous situations from which he extracts himself with panache. Finally he has to run a financial scam of the century to avenge a murder and protect his friend ( whose husband is well endowed and unsuspecting) from a racist , coke snorting villain and he manages it only too well leaving himself wide open to a frontal attack.....Every page of the book is funny .. which is saying a lot..

Title: Pandora – New Tales of The Vampires
Author: Ann Rice
This is the story of a Vampire - Pandora. I really don't know why I picked it up to read, as normally I avoid horror stories. Anyway , surprisingly I enjoyed the story and the author's vivid imagination and writing style. It tells the story of Pandora , a vampire that has been living for 2000 years and cannot die. She was born before Christ and has seen the rise and fall of empires , kings , philosophers and various mortals who are born to die. The author does not glorify the horror of the blood sucking vampires but instead focuses on how they were born and how they live . The story is actually the story of Pandora - daughter of a Roman senator who is forced to flee her homeland as her family is betrayed. She is drawn to her destiny by the King and Queen of Vampires and finds her true calling as a Vampire! I enjoyed the authors description of Roman way of life and her comparison with the modern world through the eyes of a vampire who cannot die and has to see all. She sees all, knowing nothing is permanent, yet enjoys the world as it exists, knowing that nothing is perfect , yet is .The philosophy of the great Roman and Greek thinkers is discussed with fervor as is the description of the horrible Roman punishments which finds an echo in the modern world. The style of writing is a little drawn out , as if someone from the old world is trying to put in perspective the living modern world... Very apt , because this book is in first person in the voice of the vampire.
